GREETINGS FROM GREECE

Inlägg av Nikos77 »

Hi to everyone, my name is Nikos and I write you from Greece! I like reloading Cal.12 shotshells and I go hunting here for some migratory birds from late august since late february and for some hares from half september till half january! I like to hunt together with a couple of friends and with our dogs!

I have had a few shotguns and some reloading machines, but every time I have had something...I wasn't satisfied and I always tried to increase the performances...so every time I have made some modifications...etc... :D

As I was many years in Italy for studies and work, I am able to know all the Italian producers, like Cortini, Colvini, Gaep, Omv, Olympic, Omps, Siarm...etc..and I have also some good friends there! Now I also have the biggest Greek reloading web site called IDIOGOMOSI, and I also do many reviews about reloading shotshells, hunting powders, reloading accessories...etc...

Peter said me that I could be register here and try to write in English...and I said...let's try...but I would like also to ask the moderators if I have the permission to post some commercial links or not, as I am not be able to understand Sweden language and my friend Tasos who now works in your country since a couple of months...isn't able to understand your language as well as we need... 8)

I try to put my reloading reviews website link [no commercial site - no selling]: http://www.idiogomosi.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Here also the videos of some reviews and reloading stuff: http://www.youtube.com/idiogomosi" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
And here is my hunting and reloading videos: http://www.youtube.com/huntinggr" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
[if is not allowed, please erase the links, thanks!]

So, about the reloading stuff, I am a reloader since 2009 and I have do some serious work in those years, as I have had many reloading machines and reloading stuff...that I mod the most of them [2 x Mec modded + Gaep 3 piston mod + Cortini 4 piston mod] and now I am trying to make my second reloading prototype macchine...that will have 5 independed stages and I also create some special accessories to be able to have some better performance with my reloaded shotshells! 8)

Feel free to ask me any questions or advices about reloading stuff, Italian hunting powders and especialy Italian reloading machines and accessories...as I was a beta tester of Charles/Gaep and now I am the beta tester of Daniele/Cortini...

Kind regards,
Nikos

Hi Nikos, you made it :D Welcome , and with you english you will outperform most of us :lol: I will write below in swedish that you have tested almost everything commercial
sold in italy concerning shotshell reloading stuff.
/ Peter

Hello, and welcome to the site!

I have been reading your webpage with great interest. Lots of great tests and a nice collection of data!
Are you planning to publish the data from the 2013 reloading race?

You write that you have been modifying Mec presses and that cought my interest; have you tried to attach a motor and a crimp finisher to one?
I have been looking at my Sizemaster wondering how and where to attach an electrical motor with a gaep head. With a bracket on the left side it should be possible if I could find a motor that's powerful enough without too big of a diameter.

I'd like not to buy a drill press because of lack of space in my playroom and replacing the sizemaster with a drill press with an OMV smart or something like yours is not an option for me as I really like to have the opportunity to reload once fired hulls "the American way". Your loads using only new hulls of course look better than my reloads but the reloads perform well and actually doesn't look too bad after I started finishing them with the Gaep head.

Re: GREETINGS FROM GREECE

Inlägg av Nikos77 »

Hi, thanks for the welcome messages! 8)

Let's start from the beggining of the things... Charles of Gaep was an old friend of Cortini and was also a partner-colaborator with Omv, as Gaep produces his production in the Omv's machines! Since last year, Gaep goes away and produces to another place...and I know all those things, because I helped Gaep in the past to find the distributor to our country and also to sold directly to my net friends and reloaders...but the quality of some productions wasn't good at all! Also the other companies have had some production problems and the company who has the less production problems with the quality was Cortini, especialy after Daniele has took the company since last year... I have wrote an article with pics and examples of what I wrote for our readers [ http://www.idiogomosi.com/pages/posts/i ... is-498.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ] and I put the things clear, as I was the only person here in my country and also in Italy that I have had all those infos... It's not a secret that I update the Gaeps website with photos and videos and it's not a secret that now I will update the Cortini's website in the next days, as I start collaborating with Daniele on some new projects for accessories and especialy on the upgrading of their classic macchine for reloaders...and that was my projects of this summer...as I propose to Cortini to start selling this modded macchine and after 2 months they decide to say Yes!

It's not a secret that I said about all of those machines has mechanical tolerances and their horizontal precision is not on 1/10 but in 10/10 of mm or more...and that's why I push myself to do my second prototype - the first goes really bad - that costs more that all the other commercial macchines...but at least I will have guaranteed 2/100 of mm precision!!!

About the Mec machines, my posizion is clear: they can't work perfectly and they have to be modded to work better!!! I mod in 2009 the Grabber macchine and a year after the 9000 macchine, but even that...I was fast on loading new hulls but not with the high quality I would like to be...and then I have start trying with the Gaep's equipment...with the Omv's equipment...with Colvini's equipment and after i tryied or sold everything...I was pass to Cortini 4 stage modded macchine, before I start create my super powerful 5 stage macchine... I will never say that my project will be better from the other projects, I will always will be able to say that my project it's more precise and my 5 stage shotshells will be on a higher crimping-closing-rolling quality!

About Smart mini press, we know that is a patent pending project and we can't copy it in Italy, hopefully I didn't made my ID3S prototype in Italy - I like to make clear that I said it's just a prototype - and as I wasn't proud of my creation I am designed a new 4 stage prototype project and as they speak about patent pendings and lawyers...I decide to put the projects on internet...so everyone could be able to see or to reproduce it!

Returning to the Mec presses and the rolling crimp, the only way to put the motor over that press and meke it wors...is to create 2 sprockets and put the motor in some distance away...but the only person who made it in Italy and send me the pics...made in a Grabber and I can ensure you that with the drill...you will be able to have better performance with a Cortini roller crimper!

Bild

Here we have to put the thing clear also for the roller crimpers story, as the Cortini produces the series T1-T2-T3-T-4-T5-OTP-OTC-STC-P-etc...since 1978 and after in the 2010 Gaep has arrived and start producing inside the Omv's machines their roller crimpers in a lower prices and with good quality and performances, but after in the 2011 their macchine special cutter brokes and after that...they couldn't do any good profile on they rollers at all!!! That's why in our country since last year, all of Greek reloaders buy only Cortini stuff and also thanks to me that I open the road for them via our distributor...otherwise no ones was be able to solve the problems of rolling the hulls... but the story doesn't finish here, as I said to Cortini that they have had to modify some of their products, to perform better, and after Daniele tooks the company, only after and after a few months that I was asking him to make some special stuff for Greek reloaders he said Yes to Us and we have starting rolling again with the special rollers like I2S that is the directly evolution of their famous T2 and with the I0S for the circular rolling hulls that is the evolution of their OTP roller and Daniele made it after 3 years that I repeat it in the Italian forums! Now after all those things and after my specific requests, Cortini has decide to made a new roller for star crimping with an hybrid profile between Gaep's best profiles of BN2 Special - that was also my request/project on 2010 -, Omv's N2 profile and his T2 classic profile, with the reference codes S/S2

Regarding the Mec's modifications, I am able to tell you that very soon here in my country the high class reloaders...will stop using Mec reloaders, because everyone wants the new accessories from 3 to 4 stages, and the 5 stages accessories that a Greek famous reloader has invented and after a few months that I worked on them...I have been able to optimized their profiles and their productions and soon our distributor will have them available! I want also to put clear my position about money, selling, etc: I was working in Italian factories for many years and I was a designer for other types of products in a different sector, now I try to work as computer and lan technician...but I am also a hunter and an insane reloader!!! It's not a secret that I ask the Italian companies to work with them or to do some of my prototypes on their machines and they always said no to me, I am not able to pay all those things that's obvius, so it's clear that my sponsor pays me the webserver and Cortini gives me some prototypes rollers for free as I am his officially beta tester...but the 4 stage macchine was paid by me of course...even in a lower price! 8)

About the 2013 tests...I have a better thing to post...our official tests on the qualyfied stations with the scanning documents and the pics of the shotshells! :mrgreen:

Kind regards! :wink:

I have seen data over Vectan A1SP on your website, where the pressure is specified, it is made in Italy?
gunpowder is always a problem in Sweden, especially shotgun powder .
VV N-320-340 is the most common, Vectan A0, A1, AS and recently A1SP, some American Hodgon gunpowder, H6, Longshot, then have Lovex an agent in Sweden but very few data.

I will personally take a closer look at the A1SP data .

Hi Peter, Vectan A1 Special or Speciale, is a French smokless powder from Vectan French company, that Nobel Sport Italy imports from Vectan France and distributes in Italy, our country and perhaps also in your country! 8)

Here is an example of an industrial multi stage macchine that costs a lot of money...and after is the examples of Cortini 4 stage and my friend 5 stage hulls

Nikos,

2002 I visited Gyttorp cartridge factory and looked at their machines, it was very interesting.
Why so many steps before the final crimp?

Re: GREETINGS FROM GREECE

Inlägg av Nikos77 »

Hi Håkan, I am here to share with all of you...all my knowledge on hunting and reloading shotshells, as I did already the same thing in the Italian's and Greek forums! 8)

Peter, look, the mainly difference between the more stages...are the following:

2 stage: crimping + rolling [incisione + orlatura /as Italians said]
3 stage: crimping + third stage crimping tool + rolling [incisione + ribassatura + orlatura /as Italians said]
4 stage: half crimping + conical crimping + third stage crimping tool + rolling [mezza incisione + coniatura + ribassatura + orlatura /as Italians said]
5 stage: half crimping + conical crimping + third stage crimping tool + closing + rolling [mezza incisione + coniatura + ribassatura + appiatittura + orlatura /as Italians said]

So in the first 2 stage, we have the limit of the 9 to 10 mm of free space from lead to the upper end of the hull, and with the third stage crimping tool we can arrive to the 11 and 12 mm of free space!!!

Now with the 4 stage closing, that Vasini and BSN industrials machines of 60.000~200.000€ do, you can close from 9 to 12 mm of free space and you can have the perfect closing solution either for industrial and for domestic use, as I have reply and modify the industrial design accessories and from 250€/eatch you can find it under 35~75€/eatch with the same final closing quality...as I cooperate with the best Italian rolling accessories manufacturer called Cortini 8)

As example, the Vasini industrial rolling costs in Italy 242€ include VAT 21% and the Cortini I2S rolling costs in Greece 75€ include VAT 23% and also as example a friend has took a used set of industrial BSN accessories and pay it 2 times than the same domestic new set that Cortini is selling to the final customers and the 4 stage of domestic quality hulls is exactly the same as BSN quality hulls in 1/3 of price...if you consider all the 4 accessories!!!

Since yesterday, we are working with Daniele also to the final fourth stage crimp/appitittura and in the next 15 days...I will be able to know, if it works fine and how is the final stage performance before the final rolling...

The advantage of the 4 stage closure, is that you can reload more easily your used hulls, because the first crimp is half and the second crimp is conical or for the new hulls, you can eliminate at all the problem of the full crimp that presents after the rolling in the 2 and 3 stage presses...and that's an absolute fact!!!

So in the next few days, I will be able to say you more things, and I also want to write some articles for our readers on that 2-3-4-5 stages and all the infos regarding those things... 8)

Kind regard!

Nikos has helped me to buy the tool that makes the second step before crimping
you can see it in the pictures in the middle (red hulls), second from the right.
I will use it to my Gaep VS 1500 press in the 2nd station before final crimping,

It's Nikos who designed the T2 / special conditioner that I use today.
It makes rounding better and is slightly deeper than Bn2 original from gaep.
I think it's the conditioner that is closest to the cartridge I want to copy
The 38gram cartridge manufactured by Gyttorp cartridge factory

Re: GREETINGS FROM GREECE

Inlägg av Nikos77 »

Hi Peter, here are come pics, regarding the 4 stages of BSN industrial machines that costs over 200.000€!!!

1. half crimp tool
2. conic crimp tool
3. third stage crimp tool
4. rolling tool

Bild

And this is the third stage crimp tool that i modify and designed, as I changed the internal geometry to do the best of domestic work for the domestic reloaders of our country for the reloaders who want to close over 10 and arrive to 12mm of free hull space! 8)

Bild

With the Daniele/Cortini cooperation, we have design also the second stage conic crimp tool...and 2 days ago, I also modify the internal profile and I optimise the geometry for the plastic hulls and send the project to the factory...as I want to see the best ever conic second stage at the lowest possible price on the market!!!

Here is some other accessories, that we designed together with Daniele of the Cortini factory:

1. Cortini professional first stage crimper [italian Siarm price 130.48€/Vat22% - Greek price thanks to our distributor 90€/Vat23%]
2. Cortini conic second stage prototype on my request
3. Cortini third stage crimper prototype on my design and request
4. Cortini hybrid fourth stage pass on five stage machines on my design and request
5. Cortini industrial third stage NOT crimper but different stage that simulates the third stage crimping tool and the fourth stage pass tool of the five stage industrial machines

Bild

Now regarding the rollers, Gaep BN1/BN2 Special was made in the summer of 2010 on my request [look the line on the surface of the rolles of the good productions]

Bild

and was the begging of all the story and the success of the modify profiles of their rollers, as after that...many reloaders start want to rolling with that special rollers...but as I already said before in the past days...the quality of the 2011 production was not good at all...so I have had to convince Daniele of the Cortini and after many tries I was able to start cooperation with them and our distributor ask me to modify the existing series rollers and do my best for our Greek reloaders...so we started working on the summer of 2012 and after a few time we was able to have the super specials I2S and I0S C&P Cortini modify rollers in esclusivity and only for our country!!! Now of course after all this time, that special rollers will be available also for Italian and international reloaders, either from the factory and from other ressellers or distributors...but the fact is that we have had the esclusivity for over a year and our reloaders have had the best ever performance special modified rolles of all time in the history of the non industrial reloading stages and I am vey proud of it! :mrgreen:

Gaep BN1/BN2/OTP was a modified copy of Cortini T1/T2/OTP rollers and the I2S/I0S roller is the evolution of the T2/OTP rollers, and now the new hybrid profile S/S2 rolles, will also a revolution of T2, BN2 and I2S rollers on that specific geometry and profile...I will post the pics as soon as possible in the next few days, when I will receive my S2 commercial roller...

Here are some other special prototypes that we made on my friend Kostas request...because he is the inventoer of the 5 stage closing and rolling system :mrgreen:

Thank you very much for all this great information!

The four stage crimps are stunning!
You said that once fired hulls could benefit from four stage closing, so it might be a little winter project :D

Where do you suggest we buy the tools if we want to try them?
I have the Gaep BN2 without the stripe so it's not top quality... That's disappointing considering the price :x

Thank you for the pictures of the motorized Mec! It looks quite complicated; I might have to reconsider my rebuilding it and go for something else.

Looking forward to read more about your projects!

Observe that Nikos is a perfectionist;-) Bn2 is ok, but C & P crimpers have always
classified as top off the line, just ask the Italian Marre breton here on Robsoft.
Shotshell reloading is much more common in Italy and Greece, and it is an old tradition. We in Scandinavia have learned reload shotshell "the American way"
and the "Italian way" of reload shotshell is new to us. myself, I had not used
crimpers of model T2 - 3 until a few years ago. Today I have replaced my "American" equipment with Italian equipment to completely make shotgun shells as they do in Italy & Greece.

Now, regarding your questions...

...
If we want to consider the once fired hulls [I don't use fired hulls since 2009], then we have to consider also the new way of the 4 stage crimpers!!! 8)

First of all, on the four stage procedure, we have the HALF CRIMPER STAGE that is the first stage, and of course if we have to crimp just HALF way the hull [because in the 2 and 3 stages we do full crimp]...we can use a very creap crimper and obtain the same work and the same quality!!!

As example, the lowest possible price of 90€ of the Cortini's professional steel crimper in Greece, performs better of all the other competitive crimpers in the 2 and 3 stages crimping...but performs as all the other competitive crimpers in the 4 stage crimping machines, and that's why I propose using a cheaper crimper to save money for the new hulls and especially for the once fired hulls!!!

Here in Greece, we have a local producer of cheaper crimpers that costs just 10€ and it's made in moulded alluminium, so with that cheap crimper you can use the 4 stage crimping and solve all the problems of the once fired hulls! 8)

Practical example of 3 stage top quality with Greek prices: 90€/Cortini professional crimper + 50€/Cortini professional third stage tool + 75€/Cortini professional top quality I2S roller = 215€
Practical example of 4 stage top quality with Greek prices [new hulls]: 90€/Cortini professional crimper + 40€/Cortini professional second stage conic tool + 50€/Cortini professional third stage tool + 75€/Cortini professional top quality I2S roller = 255€
Practical example of 4 stage top quality with Greek prices [alternative way for new hulls/once fired]: 10€/Greek cheap crimper + 40€/Cortini professional second stage conic tool + 50€/Cortini professional third stage tool + 75€/Cortini professional top quality I2S roller = 175€
Practical example of 4 stage top quality with Greek prices [alternative best way for new hulls/once fired]: 10€/Greek cheap crimper + 35€/Idiogomosi new supermodified second stage conic tool + 45€/Idiogomosi supermodified third stage tool + 75€/Cortini professional top quality I2S roller = 165€
beefeater skrev:...

Well, the fact is that there aren't some online shops in our country and the other problem is that the Italians don't speak English language, so the only way to find something...at least for the moment...is to help you by myself to find the accessories you may want and you may need...or to wait a few days or a couple of weeks...untill Cortini factory puts online the new website and you will be able to find some more infos there and you also wait the new website of our distributor...but none of them will have the shopping cart for the goods...so you will have to call them via phone and speak in Italian or Greek or to write an email in English and wait their reply...

So if you probably need some help...do not hesitate to ask me...and if I already help half of Greek and Half of Italian reloaders...I don't see why I don't have also to help you... :D

For the end, I kept the disappointing story also for our country reloaders for the poor quality of the last Gaep productions...either in the rolers and either in some other accessories...and it's not a secret tha I bought last spring the new double Gaep dispenser and the dispenser has the same old problems as the dispenser of the 2010 productions that I have had to modify to make it work well...and I was really diasappointed to see that thing happens for a second time...

Read also this article regarding the problems of the rollers: http://www.idiogomosi.com/pages/posts/d ... on-501.php" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

and the "Italian way" of reload shotshell is new to us. myself, I had not used
crimpers of model T2 - 3 until a few years ago. Today I have replaced my "American" equipment with Italian equipment to completely make shotgun shells as they do in Italy & Greece.
Well Peter, to say the truth...till the 2010...all in Greek reloaders used the Mec presses and just the minority under the 1~5% used some other stuff more powerfull and more expensive reloading machines...because the last Cortini factory distributor asks 2.100€ for the Cortini BiCombi 2 stage professional press [Gaep with Omv copy that machine in 2010] and so with all that money none of us buy that stuff at all! We also have to consider that the Greek Mec distributor has the Mec 9000 at 1.200€...when i bough it from the Italian Siarm company in 2010 for about 700€ with the accessories...etc...

Then after the summer of 2010 when I start helping the people to speak with Gaep and buy their stuff at half price [as the Greek prices]...then all of the reloaders start buying directly from Italy and after when the Gaep's [Omv was the producer and Gaep was the seller at that time] quality goes down...then I tried to establish cooperation with Cortini factory...but only when the factory changes boss and pass to Daniele hands, otherwise I will not start cooperationg with them...this is not a secret and this is a thing that all the Greek reloaders know...because when in 2010 and 2011 I asked Cortini to did the I2S and the I0S modified rollers...they said NO to me and they also said NO to me the majority of the Italian reloaders and say me that I was WRONG!!!

Now after a year that all the Greek reloaders uses the I2S and I0S rollers and they are super satisfied...the Italian reloaders start wanting the same rollers and the 4 stage Cortini presses that was one of my best projects...so at the end of the story...all of them say me no and gave me wrong and now I have the satisfaction to see all of them to ask to buy my 1, 2 and 3 years old prototype projects...till the most recently creations! :mrgreen:

Here is also the video of the Cortini & Pezzotti Industrial Machine Mayor Model that I put online today in my youtube chanel: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=htY-ozCEU-0" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I am very glad to present you in eslusivity also the official video of the Cortini & Pezzotti Industrial machines G73 & Mayor of 1.400 & 2.400 hulls / hour...as I helped the factory to make it! :mrgreen:

Cortini's official youtube chanel: http://www.youtube.com/CortiniPezzotti" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Cortini's G73 & Mayor official video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SVP0Mr2swe4" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I know that is not a 100% professional work on that video, but Marco that is the grandchild of Cortini, has took the videos of the machines that Daniele has made and send me via internet...even if we wasn't able to perform any better work at the moment and under that specific circumstances... When I will have the oportunity and I could be able to go to their factory, probably I will make a professional video regarding that kind of industrial machines!

Kind regards! 8)

I believe they will sell more of their products if they have an easy way to pay online, some kind of webshop like siarm would be the best i think ..
