Tikka 512s
Since somebody went to the trouble of making an International area were a hillbilly like me can post. I am going to use it.
I purchased a Tikka 512s with a set of 9.3x74 barrels and a set of 12 gage barrels yesterday. Other than being rather stiff to crack open it seems like an interesting set up.
does any one have experiance with this critter?

Re: Tikka 512s
I used a Tikka 512s quite a lot some years ago, but then only with 12 gauge barrels.
In my opinion it was a nice gun that worked just fine for my purpose (clay shooting and grouse hunting).
I have no personal experience with the 9,3x74 barrels, but I've heard that some barrel sets may spread the groups a bit.
Is it a new gun or used? New guns may be a bit stiff to crack open.

Re: Tikka 512s
Corjack, one good and sound advice is to not mess with the regulation screws along the barrel prior to reading the manual and understanding it.
Since I belive that your barrel set has regulation screws one has to remember that these are great because you can regulate the barrels to your loads, they can also cause problems by coming loose.
All in all great guns, a bit on the heavy side, will take all game in the US and most other places to, did you get and of those QD-scope mounts that are done for this type of rifle, they are really good.
Best regards Chris

Re: Tikka 512s
I have a Tikka 512 cal12/222rem, it´s an ok gun, but mayby a little heavy. I also owned a 512 shotgun, but it I´ve got problems with it after about 20.000shots at claytargets and som shots at the hunt. The problem was that it started to clicke cuite often, so after 3 times to the gunsmith I decided to "put it down". No I use a beretta 686S silver pigeon for hunting, and a 682gold for clays.
Valmet 412 and the older models were nice guns, but the problem vith the 512 is that the quality is´n as good as it was whwn the guns were made in Finland. The quality from the "lowpricefactory" in Italy could be better, some guns ar working nicely, some other not. Lets hope You got a nice one.

Re: Tikka 512s
The firearm was new in the box and I figured that was the reason fur the stiffness. It is good to know not to mess with the regulation screws so I will just see how it shoots and if it is not satisfactory I will try to regulate it by adjusting the ammo.
On a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate the workmanship as a 6 or 7 however it looks like it was designed for utility rather than beauty.
A friend gave me a QD scope mount that looks like it will fit but it has 30mm rings so now I have to buy another 30mm scope. Oh well a fellow always needs an excuse to buy another scope.

Re: Tikka 512s
Hi Corjack,
welcome to the X12 Club
( I take it you will join us )
You should have received some kind of proof of regulation to your 74R barrelset, it should state what kind of ammo has been used for regulation.
As you say this is a gun for utility, and it works very nice.
I have combination barrelset cal12/7x57R and 9,3x74R DR and I am very happy with my gun.
Also I have one insertbarrel for .22Hornet that fits the cal12 shotgun.
Once again welcome to the X12 users around the globe.

Re: Tikka 512s
I am very interested to see how this firearm shoots. I have several stands that I hunt in heavy timber and the shots are usually 70 meters or less and the deer are usually on the move and multiple targets are normal. I am hopeing that it will be suitable for this job.

Re: Tikka 512s
Yes, they fit, but sometimes you might have to contact a gunsmith for som small adjustments.
