falling block actions

Inlägg av winchester 94 »

Hi
I recently bought a barrel in 375H&H caliber which belonged to a brno 602 rifle. I like that barrel and thinking to build a single shot rifle by puting that barrel on a falling block action. my question is where to buy a falling block action which is suitable to this caliber and unthreaded to thread it afterward to fit the barrel?
best regards

Nowhere? 'Cause that's not how you do it.

BTW, I think you're i fel avdelning...

Buy a Ruger NO1 and adapt the barrel threading to fit the action instead...Probably the cheapest and quickest way...

I am studying the possibiliy of a take down or swap barrel rifle based on a ruger NO1 magnum action. I don't know if a gunsmith can do the job of transfering a ruger no 1 in 7mm mag to a take down with an extra 375 H&H barrel by using my used brno barrel? it would be areal nice gun that can handle any hunting situation maybe with exception of following Dg in thick cover.

There is a fellow that I have talked to several times at the gunshow in Tulsa Oklahoma that sells single shot kits that contain all the parts to build highwall and lowall actions. It is quite a bit of work but the price is very reasonable for the kit, around 250.00 dollars US.

I have spoken to a few guys that did them and they had enjoyed the lenghthy process of fitting and assembly. the only thing is you have to find someone to do the heat treating that knows what they are doing or you have just built a hand grenade.

I have to say that this is a really strange way to start a major project involving a falling block action custom rifle  The cost of a new blank in .375 would be a minor part in a project like this :?

Hi corjac
250 buck is not expensive , but heat treatment av all the parts which certainly needs different hardness and are made of different kind of steel is plenty of job and as you mentioned if done by somebody without knowlrdge would be very risky
I rather prefer to buy a factory made action like ruger NO1 to be on the safe side
hi stafan K
well i bought the barrel for 500 krowns .as a apare barrel for my old 602 brno and it is in very good condition :D .It is blued have an express sight plus barrel band front sight  well it is a lot of job already done , fiting it to an action woulden't be a big issue!

Yes, but think of all the fun you will miss out on. A friend of mine built from scratch a 700 Remington action, only took him 3 years, says he will never do it again but he is glad he did it that one time.

You order a set of machinist drawings from Buffalo arms, take all the skills you got from 28 years of experience as a tool maker, go to your machine shop as a friend of mine did- and start working- this first picture is from 2004.

Four years later it can look like this ( it can also look a lot different without the skills  )
