New in Sweden
Help,
I have recently moved over to Sweden from the UK and I am looking to get back into hunting.I was allowed to bring my guns into the country and was granted a hunting Licence ,can anyone tell me the best way of getting in to a hunting team or know of any gun clubs in the Nyköping area ?
I am sorry guys but my swedish is not good yet so I would prefer English.

Welcome to Sweden and the forum alemax!
You have found the right place to ask these questions! This forum is among the wery best in Scandinavia.
I live up horth so I´m not really the guy to ask about hunting and shooting in Nyköping. I was on a hunting trip in the Nyköping area a while ago though<img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle> Really good hunting for reds, fallow, pigs and roes!

Alemax, welcome to the forum! <img src=icon_smile.gif border=0 align=middle>
We haven't had that many members in here thus far with English as their mother tongue, actually none that I remember. But I've only been a member for a little over a year.
Unfortunately I don't know anything about hunting in the Nyköping area. But the best of luck to you in finding hunting opportunities there and elsewhere in Sweden!
What guns did you bring from the UK?
Yours, Rikard

Thanks for the reply guys,
Your welcome is appreciated and yes there is loads of game where we are living ,the wild pigs are a bit of a problem they just love to rip up the garden !
The guns I have at present are .22 Anschutz (not much good for hunting here in sweden)and a 12gauge mossberg auto which is a great slug gun.I am hoping that I will be allowed to buy a full bore rifle soon ,I believe 6.55 is the preferred calibre here correct me if I am wrong.

Welcome to the forum Alemax.
Unfortunately I can't help you with any gun-clubs etc. in Nyköping but I would suggest Svenska Jägareförbundet. Someone within that organisation should be able to help you. It's the largest hunters association in Sweden(by far) and they have their educational center etc. in Nyköping.
Öster-Malma, 611 91 Nyköping

http://www.jagareforbundet.se/
The 6,5x55 is the old Swedish service cartridge. As with any other service cartridges it became very popular on the civilian market as well. It's the legal minimum calibre for "big-game" in Sweden and as such it's always debated, especially here <img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle> Effect, efficiency, recoil, accuracy etc.

To get a licence for a new gun here I guess that you would need the hunters exam (jägarexamen). It's 2 different tests in writing and 3 practical (handling the weapon safe and shooting).
The practical tests are for shootgun, for the smaller game (class 2-4) and the final one for the larger game (class 1, elk and bear for example).
Maybe you can get some more information at this page: http://www.jagareforbundet.se/englishhu ... efault.asp. Unfortunatelly, the English pages seems to be targeted at (no phun intended
foreign visitors in Sweden and not someone moving here but..
Your .22 is in the lowest class and good if you want to hunt mice
The 6.5x55 is the weakest calibre that's allowed in class 1. They had to make a special regulation so that it would fit but since there's a lot of those guns out there they allowed it. Anyway, a lot of elks are killed by it every year so it works just fine. Many people prefere something more powerful for elk and wild boar. And the brown bear is growing in numbers...
Asking about a calibre here, well, I'm sure that you will get a lot of different suggestions..
I'll even give you one myself
The 7 mm Remington Magnum is nice. Ok recoil and superb trajectory.
But it's just a small step to a .300 Magnum which is just a small step from a .338 Magnum, 358 Norma Magnum, 9.3x62, 375 HH etc. Maybe a 577 T-Rex? (http://www.accuratereloading.com/videos.html)
Like Stefan.K I'm from the northern part of the country and the wild life are different so.. better listen to someone else
And, welcome to Sweden.

Well! Almost right, the other way around. Class 4 is the lowest class (cal .22lr,) Class 1 is the final one (6,5 * 55 uppwards)

Thanks again everyone ,
all your advice has been taken on board and is much appreciated. As for the jägerexamen I have been granted a temporary dispensation because of my lack of swedish but soon I will have to take it or the only thing I will be shooting is targets !
As for my .22 the authorities here found it strange that would wish to keep such a small calibre gun and yes the phrase rat gun was mentioned. It is dificult to justify anything more powerfull in the UK and unless you can afford to go Deer stalking on a regular basis .The police will not grant a licence for a full bore weapon, even a fox gun say 222 or 223 is difficult to get licenced to shoot over land.
I must add that the firearms authorities here were very helpfull ,nothing was to much trouble and I think they bent the rules a little to allow me to retain my Hunting status.
Many thanks again gentlemen,

Of course you are right. Silly mistake. As I wrote, better listen to someone else
And, well, I will never get the "to" or "too" thing right, pretty much given up...
